Pecan Street Festival

Twice-a-year Austin hosts the old Pecan Street Festival on historic 6th Street in down town Austin. This festival was the first we attended after moving here last fall and it was a warm reminder to us of all the wonderful street festivals we experienced while living in Europe. The springtime version of this festival brought much of the familiar street vendors, children's tents, stage performances, and other eccentricities of this unique city.

The kids had been wanting balloon animals for quite some time, so we finally "splurged" since this particular clown really seemed to know his stuff.

Swords, complete with belted scabbards and a beautiful "pwerpull" flower.

Pecan Street was the original name for the now legendary 6th Street, the heart beat of Austin's live music scene. We caught awesome blues-rock band, The Travis Brown Band again, featuring 15-year-old Travis Brown on guitar. We also saw Austin experimentalists, The Weird Weeds, who I'd been wanting to see since we moved here.

The kid's tent featured Cool Loops Trick Roping, which ended with any kids who wanted to, doing their best attempts at lasso twirling. A little bit dangerous for the three and under crowd who thought they were just supposed to swing their ropes wildly, acting like Real Live Cowboys and Cowgirls.

Gelato for all. Not nearly as good as what we had in Florence, but respectable Gelato nonetheless.

A few random eccentricities common on 6th Street.

Too bad Faith couldn't be there, but I know she had a wonderful time at her own festival.
A fun time was definitely had by all.
